There…and back again. Bilbo Baggins would have been proud of the adventure managed over the past thirty one days. Sometimes the days were long, the food barely palatable, the nights too short, and… what was the number of our room again? Then the day would gift us with an incomparable treasure. A moment that only the five of us will share as any attempt to relay it will fall woefully short. While a month older, age-wise, each rider is a bit more youthful for the experience. We’ve accomplished a feat that most only dream. How lucky we are! Today was homecoming, the return after a month on the road. And, once again, the most amazing things still kept happening.

mate3rd mate Chris T. had informed the Captain of our little adventure. Captain Ken Dixon of the Bridgeport-Port Jeff Ferry graciously gave us a free ride home across the water. We also received a tour of the Bridge – and asked several questions. It was Ad’s first trip ever on the BPJ Ferry.

It wasn’t long before the sight of Port Jeff cleared in the humid haze and drew closer. The thought of friends and loved ones waiting on the other side quickened heartbeats. Not long now.

Last off the ferry, we were greeted by applause and cheers from “our” crowd. Hugs, kisses, handshakes, slaps on the back – it was all there. It was all good.

This final stop was bittersweet. And so we bid each other farewell – perhaps to ride another adventure some other time. What a wonderful country and what a fabulous way to experience it!

Signs:
Welcome Home

Things We Learned Today:
• A smooshed flat dead skunk in the middle of the road, when hit at highway speeds, will still make your bike stink!

Drumroll………… The final tally:
• Three Countries
• Thirty Two States
(picked up an extra state - NC - on a change in the planned route)
• 9961.5 miles
(as per the GPS unit - bike odometer readings have us all over 10K)

Thank you so much for joining us on our adventure. Be sure to look for future coverage of our trip in IronWorks Magazine and HOG Tales. (My mother is so proud!)

Who knows – Old Bags Tour Alaska, Old Bags Ride around Iceland, OBOB Do Europe/Hawaii/Australia/China/ the Moon! (But first someone has to win the lottery.)
